THE SUMMER STUDIO FOR PROFESSIONALS
Design Disco works towards two foundational goals: to change how design is taught and to teach how design is changed. As the design landscape continues to evolve, we invite professionals to join us to redefine the future of design education. "Changing Design, Designing Change: The Summer Studio Workshop," is a four-day intensive workshop that aims to create a collaborative space for designers and educators to reimagine design education.

The program kicks-off with an online session on 1 July, with asynchronous online (4 hours over 4 weeks) activities leading up to the immersive in-person experience, inviting educators, designers, creative thinkers, and practitioners from around the globe. The Summer Studio Workshop is designed to be a platform where participants can exchange ideas, challenge conventions, and collectively question and reframe the direction of design education.
The Summer Studio Workshop is set to be a dynamic experience, featuring hands-on activities, interactive sessions, and thought-provoking discussions as we prototype new forms of design education.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SUMMER STUDIO WORKSHOP
Collaborative Exploration
Participants will engage in a series of hands-on sessions, collaborative projects, and interactive discussions, encouraging the cross-pollination of ideas between Designers and Educators.
Reimagining Design Education
The workshop will delve into the current challenges and opportunities within design education, encouraging participants to envision new pedagogical approaches, methodologies, and curricula.
Innovative Design Experiences for Teens
With a focus on the next generation of designers, the workshop aims to develop strategies and frameworks for creating engaging and meaningful design experiences for Summer Studio for Teens in 2025.
Networking and Knowledge Exchange
Attendees will have the chance to connect with like-minded professionals, establishing a global network that extends beyond the workshop, fostering ongoing collaboration and idea-sharing.
SEMINAR SPEAKER
Philipp Sack (he/him) is a research associate at the Academy department of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. In this capacity, he manages the Bauhaus Lab programme in Global Modernism Studies and is co-lead of the multi-year research project Schools of Departure, an online atlas mapping the globally entangled histories of design and art education beyond the Bauhaus. Philipp studied art history, medieval and modern history, and museum studies in Heidelberg, Lyon, and Paris, and been working as an independent art educator for institutions such as ZKM | Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Tate Liverpool, and Goethe Institut Novosibirsk, before joining the Bauhaus. He is particularly interested in implementing and/or studying educational formats emerging in the interplay between cultural and educational institutions, as well as in the history and theory of visual cultures.
FACILITATORS
Jason Nam, Director and Founder of Design Disco, is a design educator, creative director, and strategist with a diverse background. He's worked in the marketing team at Fotografiska Museum, taught design at Riverside International School, and worked as an architect for Samsung Engineering and MAP Architects. Jason has led numerous workshops, panels, and trips across the globe to help people discover the relevance of design in their lives. He has also talks at TEDx, TEDxYouth, and Bauhaus Study Rooms. He studied architecture at Virgina Tech and ARCHIP, and holds a MSC in Design Research from the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation / Anhalt University.
Elizabeth Perry is a teacher, writer, and artist with an interest in creating relationships between material and digital worlds. She has been at the International School of Prague since 2015, where she helps teachers and students use technology in new ways. She has spoken and taught workshops about design and creative approaches to computer science internationally, has consulted for Google in K-12 education and outreach, and has been a fellow at the Studio for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie-Mellon University. Her formal background includes a BA in English from Yale University, and an MFA in fiction writing and PhD in English from the University of Pittsburgh.
Charlie Edmonds is a London-based designer and writer working across the fields of architecture, climate transition, and political economy. He is a graduate of the University of Cambridge where he co-founded Future Architects Front. Charlie co-leads the Neighbourhood Transitions demonstrator at CIVIC SQUARE, which seeks to reveal the necessary pathways towards a devolved urban climate transition. He has taught internationally at a variety of institutions, from Cambridge to Tokyo, and is currently a critical practice tutor at the London School of Architecture.
Ani Bojadžjan, co-founder of Design Disco and an interior designer, thrives at the intersection of creativity and technology. With a background in architecture from Czech Technical University Faculty of Architecture and ARCHIP, she brings a unique perspective to her role. Currently, she excels in creative project management within the VR/AR industry, leveraging her expertise to drive innovation and stunning design experiences. Ani has also led numerous design workshops, sharing her passion and knowledge with aspiring designers.

Early Bird Registration is currently open with a deadline of 1 May 2024. Limited spaces are available, and interested participants are encouraged to secure their spots early. The Regular Registration deadline is 17 June 2024.
The Summer Studio Workshop adopts a sliding-scale price structure:
- Regular: 600 EUR
- Early Bird: 400 EUR
- Regular Reduced: 300 EUR
- Early Bird Reduced: 150 EUR
Design Disco is committed to making design education accessible, where every individual, regardless of their background and financial means, deserves equal opportunity. For those with limited financial resources, we provide a reduced price. We trust your honesty and do not require proof of finances for enrolment.
Payment is processed via PayPal once the registration form is filled out and your spot has been confirmed. The registration fee covers access to digital platforms utilized during online collaborations, as well as materials needed for in-person workshops and seminars. Please note that the fee does not include travel expenses or accommodation.
If a participant wishes to cancel their registration, they must send a written request via email to summer@designdisco.org. If the written request is received more than 90 days prior to the start date of The Summer Studio Workshop (1 June 2024), the participant will be entitled to a full refund, minus the administrative fee charged by PayPal. Requests received within 90 days of The Summer Studio Workshop start date are not eligible for a refund. Please be aware that all bank charges, as well as any associated fees, are the responsibility of the participant.
